Downriver Hockey Club Learn to Play Program

LEARN TO PLAY (Ages 4-8)

 

This program is designed to introduce new players to hockey in a fun environment. Players will learn proper stance, falling down and getting up, skating, stopping, passing, and shooting all while in a hockey setting. 

Once your player has gone through our learn to play program the next steps would be to sign them up to play on a  6U, 8U hockey team or our Recreation Program.  

  • The Emphasis is on Fun!
  • Modeled from USA Hockey American Development Model
  • Age Appropriate training 
  • Instructed by Downriver Hockey Club Coaches
  • Beginning step for children who have interest in becoming a hockey player

 

Players will need the following equipment by first date:

  • Copy of birth certificate 
  • Protective cup
  • Garter belt or hockey shorts
  • Shin guards
  • Hockey Socks
  • Hockey pants  
  • Hockey skates
  • Shoulder pads
  • Elbow pads
  • Hockey Jersey
  • Neck guard
  • Certified hockey helmet
  • Hockey gloves
  • Hockey stick

*Please Note: Southgate Ice Arena  has rental skates, and  "One Goal" hockey equipment available for rent depending on availability, first come first first serve. These sets of equipment exclude skates, protective cup, garter belt/ hockey shorts,  hockey socks. Please check with the staff for more details.
